The Detroit Public Library, encouraged by the positive response to this annual publication, continues the tradition of the African American Booklist for 2013 and beyond. This bibliography provides a selected list of books by and/or about African Americans. This booklist includes works of fiction and nonfiction for adults, children and young adults reviewed and recommended by librarians of the Detroit Public Library.
The African American Booklist began as a way to commemorate Black History Month and since that time has continued to feature the accomplishments of African Americans in the literary world. The booklist is an annual tradition in our community and continues to be a highly anticipated publication for book lovers nationwide.
This year’s booklist theme honors one of the Detroit Public Library’s own, the late Clara Stanton Jones. As a former director of the library, Mrs. Jones was an innovative national leader throughout her career.
The African American Booklist salutes the rich legacy of Mrs. Clara Stanton Jones for her service and countless contributions to the Detroit Public Library.
